SHERIFF'S REPORT
Sheriff Dave Blair was filling in for Mayor Barnett, but was using Bryan's notes. Dave didn't want to take the credit (or blame) for these fines.
  • David Archbold was charged a smart aleck fine for his comments about the badge box.
  • Lions fans, viewers, and attendees were fined as we wanted to get their cash while we could. Those who don't care about the Lions were also fined!
  • People with kids or grandkids going back to school were fined for the sighs of relief heard all around town!
  • Golf players were charged a playing fee.
  • Trevis Harrold was fined for his too-small shirt sleeves or maybe for his manly biceps? They look something like this.
  • On this day in 1846 American inventor Elias Howe earned a patent for the first lockstitch sewing machine
  • On this day in 1960 Popeye the Sailor debuted on TV. "That's all I can stands, 'cause I can't stands no more!"

SPEAKER

Susan Tisdel discussed the history of the Port Huron Town Hall and its list of impressive speakers, and what she wants to accomplish by bringing this program to the Greater Rochester area.

In the fall of 2023, after attending the Port Huron Town Hall speaker series for several years, a small group of local residents, including our speakerl decided to develop a similar program closer to home. They wanted the Greater Rochester community to have that same experience of a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear, see, to be moved, and inspired by amazing speakers at an accessible cost. With that as a goal, the E Speaker Series was born: a passion project to Engage, Enrich, Enchant, Enlighten, and Entertain all who attend. The E Speaker Series partnered with Meadow Brook Theatre and invited two speakers for the 2024 season.

Tuesday, October 29 - Steve Hartman, CBS News Correspondent. Hartman will share moving stories about the extraordinary people he meets in his weekly “On the Road” feature segment. Hartman’s stories are used in thousands of classrooms worldwide to teach kindness and character.

Tuesday, December 3 – Sharon McMahon, America’s Government Teacher and creator of Sharon Says So. McMahon is on a mission to curate facts, fun, and inspiration by educating Americans on democracy, politics, and history. After years of serving as a high school government and law teacher, McMahon took her passion for education to Instagram with a mission to combat political misinformation with non-partisan facts. She is also the host of the top-rated podcast Here’s Where It Gets Interesting, where each week, she provides entertaining yet factual accounts of America’s most fascinating moments and people.

Both programs will be held at Meadow Brook Theatre. Tickets can be purchased directly at the box office or through Ticketmaster.
