HAPPY BUCKS
Happy bucks were nixed today due to time constraints.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Marty McClure decided to hang on to the bejeweled trophy for another week because no one present was good enough to give it to (jibe complimentary of our sheriff this week...)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Shirley Gofrank gave a quick reminder about the Back To School project at Neighborhood House tomorrow night at 5pm.
Shirley Gofrank also reminded us about the golf outing, being held on August 26th, 2019. The main beneficiary of this event is Rochester Community Schools Foundation, focusing on mental well-being.
Bill Ebinger requested golf ball tickets back next week, August 20th, 2019.
Carol Lowman spoke about Reboot Combat Recovery, a course designed to help veterans, active military, and their families cope with the post-emotional turmoil of combat situations. The biggest issue is suicide (20 veterans per day are dying). It is a 12 week curriculum starting on September 5th, in Rochester, MI at the Rochester Firehouse, 6-8pm, no cost. This is not a support group, but a course, with a beginning and an end. Looking for soldiers that may know others that may benefit from this course. An e-mail will be sent out to help spread the word.
Tim Duncan announced that we have a baseball game, the USPBL championship game on Sunday, September 8th at 1:05pm at Jimmy John's Field in Utica, MI. Cost for tickets is $32 per seat, including a meal and (2) drink tickets. We have a matching sponsor for this event, in that however many tickets are sold, a monetary match (dollar for dollar) will be made to our Charities for discretionary use. Yes, you are still paying for your seat, but the amount you are paying will be matched and donated.
Rotary business cards were distributed, use them! There is a space underneath Rotary's contact information that we can write in our contact information for distribution.
BIRTHDAYS AND CLUB ANNIVERSARIES
No birthdays this week, and one club anniversary: Alan McLellan, 10 years.
SONGS
The velvety pipes of Eric Whipple then led us in two perfect mid-August songs, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and This Land is Your Land. Thanks Eric!
SHERIFF'S REPORT
Today's sheriff was Bryan Barnett, who proceeded to fine and tax the room into oblivion, raising $249 for our charities. Great job Bryan!
PROGRAM
David Eardley introduced our speaker, Deb Kiertzner-Flynn, the race director for the Brooksie Way. She spoke about the history of the race, L. Brooks Patterson's passion for developing it, and the focus behind the race itself, supporting programs that encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. The community support behind it, and how the organization gives back so much to the community were discussed in depth. Great talk about a great event, thanks Deb!
