Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
September 10th, 2019
President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang This Is My Country, and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by Ernie Schaeffer, speaking about the club, our leaders, the four way test, camaraderie, our fantastic sheriffs, music, and the songs that we sing not so well.  Also thankful that we only have a few Ohio State Buckeyes amongst us..  President Wayne then spoke that today marks the day prior to the 18th anniversary of 9/11/01.  Where were you that day?  And, what has changed?  How are we continuing to cope with this tragedy?  Lunch was served.
We had 49 members present, and five guests:  Sharon Reinke and Vito Pionito, guests of Alan McLellan, Monica and Jeff VanOvermeer, guests of Rhonda Panczyk, and Suzanne Klein from the Grosse Pointe Rotary Club.
David Walker gave the 15th handshake award to Sharon Reinke, who is safe from fines because she isn't technically a member yet, AND she received the 15th handshake.
Tim Crawford, Jo Allen is looking for an administrative assistant for the Rochester Foundation.
Tom Neveau was happy about Keith Harbaugh.
Rhonda gave the Rotarian of the Week award to Shirley Gofrank for being a fantastic stand up lady, thankful for supporting her and being a role model within Rotary.  Congratulations Shirley!
Tom Neveau then came to the podium to give a $5,000 check to the Eye Mission in Africa.

President Wayne gave a bit of trivia:  9/13 is the International Day for Disaster Reduction, 9/14 is World Standards Day, 9/15 is World Student Day and World White Cane Day, 9/16 is World Food Day.  There will be a test...
President Wayne spoke briefly about District 6380's One Rotary Summit coming up on September 14th, 2019 at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.  The primary topic will be communication skills training, through the use of story-telling.
Kyle Johnson, 9/11
Cary Riggs, 9/15
Tate Vo, 9/16
Bob Lytle then led us in glorious four part harmony, singing I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover and The Rotary Song.  Thanks Bob!
President Wayne then proceeded to fine us a total of $185, using various Rotary trivia answers (or lack thereof) to lighten our wallets a bit.  Nice job Wayne!
Dr. Nelson Edwards then spoke to us about his humanitarian eye missions in Africa, performing vision tests and distributing several thousand eye glasses each time that he visits.  Great cause, fantastic mission work.  Thank you Dr. Nelson!
