Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
December 17th, 2019
President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang God Bless America, and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by Janet McPeek, reminding us to notice and appreciate those things that mean so much, family, friends, the many freedoms that we enjoy, and Rotary.  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to give to others so they too have reason to celebrate.  Lunch was served.

There were 57 Rotarians present, and six guests:  Joanna Vanraaphorst, guest of Shirley Gofrank, Pat Celani guest of Kathy Losinski, Bryan Deel guest of David Walker, Julianne Morian guest of Christine Hage,  Blake grandson of John Modetz, and Pierce Stuhlreyer guest of Ernie Schaeffer.  We also had two Interactors with us from Rochester High School.  Welcome everyone!

William Gross announced to the club that David Eardley earned the 15th handshake this week, enjoy the week without fines David!
Vito Pampalona was excited about his book signing this evening at Barnes and Noble in Rochester, all proceeds from the sale of his book are going to the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
Alan McLellan was happy about the kid's Christmas Party this past Saturday at Rivercrest, we had 40 smiling kids in attendance.
Kathy Losinski was happy for the holiday meals being distributed through the food pantry.
Alaina Campbell was thankful again for the Rochester Christmas Parade, and wanted to give out two thank you gifts to two Rotarians for their support of the parade, John Modetz and Russ Shelton.
Alaina Campbell then gave the Rotarian of the Week award away to Tim Crawford for all of his work for the community.  Congrats Tim!
Tim Crawford spoke briefly about the Master's Raffle.  $100 per ticket, 300 tickets total.  We will be offering a $2500 cash option this year.  The trip is round trip airfare, two tickets for both days of the Masters, plus hotel.
President Wayne then gave a Presidential Citation (silver level) from Rotary International to the Interact Club from Rochester High School, great job Interactors!
Ernie Schaefer then gave a Paul Harris award to Phil Lowman for (10) consecutive 'Every Rotarian Every Year' donations.  Nice job Phil!
President Wayne then passed the festive bucket collecting donations for our wait staff at Rivercrest.  We collected $1623 for them today, thank you so much for putting up with Phil!
Tom Inger was then inducted into the club, welcome Tom!
Two birthdays until the next meeting, Maria Willett December 17th and Steve Schettenhelm on December 31st.
Jerry Carvey then led us in two songs, Santa Claus is Coming To Town and Silent Night.  Thanks Jerry!
David Blair then came to the podium and proceeded to extract $215 for our charities.  Everything from camera quality to Christmas floats to family dynamics to electrical usage, topping off the program with multiple kid jokes.  Great job David!
David Eardley then introduced our speakers of the day, Jo Allen and Bill Ebinger.  Jo continued our discussion on charitable giving, highlighting multiple changes in tax law and how the Community Foundation can maximize your giving while simultaneously minimizing your tax burden.  Bill then spoke about the Rotary Endowment, how it is growing and what the expectations are for its future use.  Thank you both for the information, great presentation!
