SHERIFF'S REPORT
Today's sheriff's report was brought to us by David Blair who challenged us with Black History and music trivia. All fines collected support Rotary Scholarships. Thank you!
Jo Allen provided our presentation on the Community Foundation today.
Jo Allen practiced law in Rochester Hills for 35 years before becoming the executive director of the Community Foundation. She began eight years ago when the Foundation was struggling to make their monthly budget. Through the team's dedication their day to day account is now at a strong $50,000 helping them continue to make a difference in the community every day.
The Community Foundation is a bridge between people who need and people who have. The board works together to decided which charitable organization is the recipient of funds. The foundation is supported through donations of both business and personal and is even included in some community members' estate plans.
A quarterly news letter is published reflecting the impact of the different funds that have been distributed and other ongoings within the Community Foundation. One of the most moving stories is that of the scholarship set up in honor of Tate Myre, a student whose life was taken in the Oxford High School shooting. Within the first 5 days of setting up the scholarship, the community foundation received over 500 individual gifts from 15 different states, many of which were accompanied by a personal note to the family.
Tami Salisbury gave us an update on all of the exciting things to come in 2022. The Community Foundation continues to establish new funds and host fundraising events that go directly towards the charitable needs of the community. A golf outing is currently in the works and their annual tailgate will be held on October 27th. A new fund will be established as the Rochester Area Business Fund that allows for local business owners to support the community through their donations.
We look forward to all that the Community Foundation has in store and are so honored to be a part of what they stand for!!
