Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
August 8th, 2019

President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang America the Beautiful, and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by Tom Neveau, reminding us that all religions are welcome in Rotary.  He also requested that the club keep Jerry Gross in mind regarding an upcoming surgery.  President Wayne discussed briefly several key events that happened on August 6th, including the start of the Constitution Convention in Philadelphia (1787), and the Enola Gay dropping the first atomic bomb in 1945.  Lunch was served.  There were 46 members present, and seven guests, Alijandro Ramirez and Michaela Posegay, guests of David Archbold, Samantha Wingerter, guest of Janet McPeek, Lorrie and Dan Posegay (parents of exchange student Michaela Posegay), Jen Porter (Rochester College), guest of Shirley Gofrank, and Ashley Stone (OU associate athletic director), guest of Bob Lytle.

15th HANDSHAKE
Bob Lytle attained this high honor, no fines today for Bob!

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Kyle Johnson gave the Rotarian of the Week award to Marty McClure for being a friendly face at Bryan Barnett's Inauguration.  I guess everyone else there was just plain mean...  Congrats Marty!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Bill Ebinger spoke about the golf ball drop, we are in sprint mode to the end.  Sell tickets!  Bring everything back two weeks from today.  Need more tickets, give him a call.

Rhonda Panczyk spoke about the golf outing, 8/26/19, sign up if you are going to golf.  Announcements have gone out through social media, UK rotarians have taken notice of our Rochester Community Schools Foundation beneficiary, and asked us to join with their RI initiative "Don't Bottle It Up."  This initiative fits with our mental health initiative for this event.
Rachel also took to the podium to request a sponsor for a photo booth for the event, please contact her or Rhonda if you are interested in helping out.

Stuart Siegner and the membership committee have developed a flyer for use, please take a couple to give to people that may be interested in our club.  This is probably one of the best flyers that our club has ever had, please use them.

Ernie Schaeffer spoke about the difference between a Paul Harris Fellow (single $1000 donation) and the Paul Harris Society (yearly recurrent $1000 donation pledge).  He then asked three Rotarians to come up and be recognized for their Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) donations that have given to EREY for 10+ years, Tom Neveau, Alan McLellan, and Shirley Gofrank.  These individuals have given $1000 cumulative over time, and have earned a Paul Harris award.  Congatulations!  He also gave a couple of tidbits about the Rotary Foundation, it has given $3 billion since it's inception, $1.9 billion to fight Polio.

SHERIFF'S REPORT
Chief Schettenhelm then loosened our wallets and fined us for #PaytheSherriff, #BrochurePictureRelease, out of the country travel and assorted customs searches, Arethra Franklin's estate issues, Fresh Breath and Stop on Red week, if you like soup, and if you have ever used the internet.  $211 was raised for charity, thanks Chief!

PROGRAM
David Archibold introduced our speakers for the meeting, two outbound exchange students, Alijandro Ramirez and Michaela Posegay.  They spoke about their experience in their respective countries (Alijandro - Chile, Michaela - Hungary), discussing the school and family structure, cultural food, and assorted other highlights from their travels.  Overall, great to hear about their experience, really puts into perspective this fantastic program that Rotary supports.
