PROGRAM
Ron Lichtle introduced today's speaker, Blanca Fauble, Director of Development for HAVEN.  Blanca was born in Lima, Peru, and is a graduate of Iowa State University (thunderous applause from Wayne Hodges and Steve Oehler).  HAVEN began in 1975 by a group of women volunteers.  They moved into their new $8 million facility in 2018, which brings all of their services into one location.  She shared some eye-opening statistics:
1 out of 5 women and 1 out of 7 men are raped in their lifetime.
1 out of 10 rape victims are men.
1 out of 5 women are survivors of sexual assault at colleges.
Rape is the most underreported violent crime in the USA.
She stated that awareness, such as their PSAs, always bring more calls to their call center, as people reach out for help.  Their call center received nearly 16,000 calls in 2018.  860 adults and 113 children received counseling.  They have a strong relationship with the area police agencies, who contact them any time that they are responding to incidences of sexual assault.  Blanca also shared that resources and community partnerships are also available for survivors through HAVEN.
A good Q&A time followed.

Thank you, Blanca, for your great presentation!

President Rodney closed the meeting at 1:31 p.m.  See you next week!
