Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
December 10th, 2019

President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang God Bless America (a cappella!), and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by Tim Duncan, giving thanks for the day and the opportunities that we have to give back to our community, asking to give our politicians strength to take a moment and listen to each other, not blindly follow what their respective parties require.  Lunch was served.

ATTENDANCE

We had 43 Rotarians present, with seven guests:  Julianne Morian guest of Christine Hage, Anthony Diliddo guest and grandson of Ron Diliddo, Brandon Biorge from OU Rotaract, Jacob Bozemon from OU Rotaract, Irene Spanos from OU Rotaract, Dave Dulio from OU Rotaract, and Joann Tarly guest of David Archbold

HAPPY BUCKS
David Archbold was happy about two things, first the exchange program gave us a student traveling to South America, and about the Rochester Christmas Parade and the Rotarians, Interactors, and Rotaractors that attended.
Phil Lowman was very happy about getting a ride up to Stony Creek High School by our one and only Chief Schettenhelm.
Alaina Campbell was also thrilled about the parade, a big thank you to all of the sponsors and everyone that helped.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
The Rotarian of the Week was absent (yet again), but the bejewelled trophy did come back to us for re-gifting.  Russ Shelton came to the podium and gave the award away to Alaina Campbell, congrats Alaina!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Tom echoed his happiness about the parade, thanks everyone.
Frank Rewold then came to podium to talk about the loss of two Rotarians, Ray Nicholson and Tom Klix.  Ray was an icon in the community, helping with so many projects including the Onyx Ice Arena, Yates Cider Mill, Griffin Brewing to name a few.  Tom was the owner Whim's Insurance Agency in Rochester, MI, and a great Rotarian, most well-known as one of our sheriffs.  Both will be missed.
President Wayne then brought the OU Rotaract Club to the podium to recognize them as a recipient of Rotary's Presidential Citation (silver level) for this past year.  Brandon Biorge spoke briefly about what the club is doing, keeping us up to date on their activities.  Congrats!

BIRTHDAYS AND CLUB ANNIVERSARIES
Two birthdays this week, Bob Lytle on December 12th and Tim Crawford on December 14th.
Club Anniversaries:  Dick Gorges 12 years and Janet McPeek 2 years (with our club).

SONGS
Jerry Carvey then led us in one song, White Christmas.  Thanks Jerry!

SHERIFF'S REPORT
Chief Schettenhelm then came up and fined everyone, multiple times over.  Threatening us with jail, finishing Christmas shopping, ugly Christmas sweaters, the Rochester Christmas Parade, hitch-hiking, and multiple OU and bowl game trivia questions gleaned $204 for our charities.  Great job Steve!

PROGRAM
William Gross then introduced our speaker of the day, Dr. Ora Pescovitz, President of Oakland University.  It was great to hear about what OU is up to, and how they are adapting to today's educational climate.  Thanks for the talk Ora, we enjoyed our visit to OU.
