If you weren't able to attend the July 9th meeting, we missed you as we gathered at Rotary Gateway Park for our picnic lunch. The 38 people in attendance were hot but were not rained upon!
Jeff Whitbey was our 15th handshake and, therefore, was fine-free for the day. Two guests attended the meeting our superb park gardener, Jane Quigley, and potential member Janice Cain.
Shirley Gofrank is once again leading our hands-on Blast Off 2 School project with Neighborhood House on August 14th from 4:30 - 6 PM. We're in need of one more volunteer to help stuff school supplies into shopping bags. Your participation is crucial to the success of this project. If you can help, please contact Shirley.
Ernie Schaefer announced that registration is now open for the Summer Social, which will be held at Frank Rewold's office on July 25th from 6 - 8. Tickets are $30 each and we ask that you register online at: https://tinyurl.com/mrxeh6b3. You should have received an email with the flyer included with more details and a easy click for registration via PayPal.
Trevis Harrold is running for the Michigan House of Representatives, District 55, and has yard signs available if you are willing to put one up on his behalf.
HAPPY BUCKS
Bob Lytle was happy that his Florida grandson is visiting him through the month's end. Bob also announced that the Rochester Grangers have home games at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm on July 20 and August 10th. These free baseball games provide a lot of family fun.
SONG LEADER Bob Lytle led us in the Gateway Park Song, sung to the tune of It's A Grand Old Flag. Bob wrote the lyrics.
BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES
This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating several milestones. We wished Tami Salisbury and Ron Diliddo a happy birthday, celebrated Mike Dreon's second year in Rochester Rotary, and celebrated Carol Franciosi's first anniversary of being back in our club.
SHERIFF'S REPORT
Sheriff David Blair fined hat-wearing members such as Cowboy Jay Eastman and Sailor Bob Lytle. David was happy we could meet outside in the park, as the Library was all booked up! Trevis Harrold was fined for his shameless campaign plug. Bill Ebinger was fined for suggesting a park parking meter as a fundraiser for park maintenance. Paul Haig was fined for doing such a great job on some jewelry for Sheriff David. Ernie Schaefer was charged $5 for using Frank Rewold's building for the Summer Social. The real question was whether Frank would be there. Bob Lytle was fined for putting a Feed the Squirrels sign in the park. And finally, all ladies in long flowing gowns were fined $5. There were none! All fines go to support our scholarship program.
SPEAKER
Bill Ebinger gave a talk on Rotary Gateway Park's history. Originally costing $215,000, the Park was formed in 1997 and is maintained by our Club. However, it is on land leased from the Rochester Hills Public Library. The Club, not our Charities, now pays for the park maintenance. Several pieces of public art were purchased as memorials for family members.
The park has primarily been funded through brick sales (regular-sized bricks are $150, and the larger bricks are $425).
You can find more information on the park at https://www.rochesterrotaryclub.org/Page/rotary-gateway-park.
YOUR COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS are now listed at the very bottom of each weeks RotoSoop.
