Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
October 22nd, 2019

President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegience, then we sang God Bless America, and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by Jerry Gross, then Wayne introduced Brinko Arvay, who was an exchange student with Rotary 16 years ago.  Lunch was served.

ATTENDANCE

We had 56 members present, and 7 guests:  Brinko Arvay  From Bjelovar Croatia Rotary Club and exchange student from 2002; Donald Hobley, guest of Ron Lichtle; James Blundo, guest of Alan McLellan; Erin Fitzgerald guest of Dave Eardley; and Laurene Kaschulk, Stoney Creek Interact Advisor attending with multiple students (enjoy the bake sale!).

15th HANDSHAKE

David Walker was proud to announce that Russ Shelton was the winner of this week's 15th Handshake award, enjoy the tax break Russ!

HAPPY BUCKS
President Wayne was happy about a successful minor surgery this past week.
Tom Neveau updated us on our exchange program, the students will be traveling to Point Pelee for an overnight trip.
Kathy Losinski was happy about Rochester University's Scare Away Hunger 5k this past weekend, there were 500+ runners that attended.
Kyle Johnson was very happy to announce that we have a date for the wine tasting, Friday, April 17th, 2020.
Jay Eastman was happy (and a bit concerned) to announce the Foundation Gala.  Jennifer Jones is speaking at the event, please sign up if you are interested.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Phil Lowman then utilized an overly inflated sense of drama to give the award to Russ Shelton, hoping to get a free car wash out of it.  Someone needs to check the urinal to make sure he actually put $5 in...

ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Wayne brought attention to the club brochures and business cards on the tables, please take several and use them to celebrate our club.
Ethan Hoffman spoke about the job shadow program on the 19th of November.
Rhonda Panczyk then spoke about Rotary and Polio, and World Polio Day on October 24th, sprinkling in assorted compliments for our President to increase her available speaking time.  Mary Ann Reidinger then complemented Rhonda's presentation, speaking about the horses in the area of that timeframe, and how they were used to further Polio research.  Great information, and a perfect reminder about this important mission of Rotary.
Renee Cortright then spoke about our poinsettia sales and our food for the community emphasis with this years sale, go sell!
Ernie Shaeffer then discussed a major problem of Rochester Rotary, we are all suffering from a carb deficiency within the club.  As such, on the 24th of October (this Thursday), several pizza establishments in the Rochester area are serving Pizza for Polio.  Those establishments are listed on the flyers on the table, please visit them to eat pizza, and help save the world in the process.
Tom Neveau then presented a check to RockIt, a company that seeks to create a better world for children in need.  Jim Blundo received the check, and gave us an idea as to what it would be used for.  Worthy cause, thank you Jim for your service.
Bill Ebinger then asked for help cleaning up Rotary Park this weekend, Saturday at 9am.  Bring a rake...
Marty Pavlick then spoke about the job shadow program, please sign up if you (or someone that you know of) are interested in hosting a student or three.

SHERIFF'S REPORT

PROGRAM
David Eardley then introduced our speaker of the day, Jodie McKay, author of two children's books.  She spoke about the process of writing and publishing books, and the trials and tribulations of such.  Excellent information, thanks very much for speaking to us today.
