President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang God Bless America, and recited the modified Four Way Test. The invocation was given, and lunch was served.
ATTENDANCE
We had 56 members present, and nineteen guests, included District Governor Spark Leonard, Suzanne Kline of Grosse Pointe Rotary, Paul Okonewski, Bill Wimelberger, and Dave Price of Romeo Rotary.
15th HANDSHAKE
Sharon Reinke gave the 15th handshake to Marty McClure, no fines today Marty!
HAPPY BUCKS
Vince Mattina was happy to get back from Phoenix.
Phil Lowman apologized for attempting to run an Ohio State training film on a freeway billboard, but mixed up the tapes (what's a tape?)
Sparky Leonard was happy for his wife's birthday.
Pete Duhamel was upset at the Lion's +1 to the 'L' column, but happy that they looked like a good team.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Vince Mattina gave the bejeweled trophy to David Walker, congrats David!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Jay Eastman spoke about our efforts to combat Polio throughout the world. In particular, he reminded us to not "take our foot off the gas", we are that close. Our district itself gave $30k last year, the most of any district in our zone. Keep going! Anyone interested in joining him at the Foundation Dinner on November 2nd in Plymouth, please see him. Otherwise, he's stuck with Wayne.
Ethan spoke briefly about the job shadow program.
Bill Ebinger then spoke about Rotary Park Cleanup, Saturday, October 26th, 9am. If you can help, please show up!
Tim Crawford announced a Chamber of Commerce event this coming Monday when they will announce the Grand Marshal's of the Rochester Christmas Parade.
Steve Ohler announced the Poinsettia fundraiser, we are raising money for food and nutrition related diseases. Sales start next Tuesday, October 8th, ending on November 19th. Delivery is expected on December 4th.

SHERIFF'S REPORT
David Blair then fined everyone, truly. Picking on people that can or can't read, Rotarian authors, and anyone that enjoys kid jokes, he raised a total of $274 for our charities, nicely done!
PROGRAM
David Eardley then introduced our speaker of the day, R.J. King. Mr. King enthralled the group with multiple stories incorporated into his book, Detroit: Engine of America. Great talk, and a very good book. If you haven't read it, very worthwhile. Thanks very much for speaking to us!
