President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang an unknown song due to a glitch in the Rotary digital recorder, and recited the modified Four Way Test. The invocation was given, and lunch was served. There were 55 members present, and two guests, Samantha Wingerter, guest of Linda Eastman, and Sandeep Chada, guest of Tom Neveau.
After the introduction of guests, our foundation chair, Ernie Shaeffer came up to the podium to give a Paul Harris Society award to Bryan Barnett for being inaugurated as President of the United States Conference of Mayors, elected by 1,400 mayors across the United States of America. Congrats Bryan!
An announcement was given regarding our next meeting that will not take place at Rivercrest. This meeting (July 30th) will take place at the John M Schultz Education Campus at 1440 John R Road. Multiple e-mails have already been sent regarding this change of venue, this is your LAST CHANCE TO TAKE NOTE AND NOT GO TO RIVERCREST.
Rhonda gave a one minute talk on the golf outing, August 26th at Twin Lakes Golf Club. This is our oldest charity event that our club hosts, ongoing for almost 40 years. Please see Shirley Gofrank if you are interested in hole sponsorship, Janet Drobnich if you have goodie-bag items, and Rhonda if you want to golf, or have any other questions. Additional information can be found here:
A video was then played regarding our ongoing work at Casa Colibri. Created by John Somerville, this amazing video highlights an incredible Rotary project. Additional information on our Guatemalan medical mission (including the full video) can be found here:
Great job John.
The rest of the meeting was devoted entirely to our charities' activities for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Over $100,000 was given to local, regional, and international charities. Carla Barnett (Dynamic Kids), Cathy Lozinski (Neighborhood House), Alan Smith (Community House), and Michelle Monticelli (Know Resolve) all spoke about what our donations mean to their individual organizations, and the community as a whole. Somebody once said, "You make a living by what you get, you make a Life by what you give away." Thank you everyone, this is the stuff that makes you proud to be a Rotarian.
